What is Ultra Solvy Stabilizer?
Ultra Solvy is a water soluble, temporary stabilizer or transfer agent that
is made of a polyvinyl alcohol film it dissolves in water like magic! Ultra
Solvy is twice as thick, heavy and strong as Super Solvy and 4 times as
thick, heavy and strong as the Original Sulky Solvy! It is non-toxic and
resistant to organic materials such as fats, oils, etc. It will dissolve in
water with a temperature of anywhere from 32 degrees to 200 degrees in about
5 to 10 minutes. To make Ultra Solvy thicker and heavier still, two or more
layers can be fused together by spraying one layer with Sulky KK 2000 and
smoothing them together.

When would I use Ultra Solvy Stabilizer?
Ultra Solvy is perfect as a topper on napped fabrics like towels to keep the
loops or piles from poking through the stitching, to prevent stitches from
getting lost in the fabric, and to enhance the clarity of fine lettering and
detail stitching. Make Ultra Solvy into a liquid stabilizer by dissolving 1/4
yard in 8 oz. of water. Brush liquid Ultra Solvy onto flimsy or sheer fabrics
that are to be stitched. Do not use it on non-washable fabrics like velvet or
silk.
Where would I use Ultra Solvy Stabilizer?
Use it anywhere that dissolving the stabilizer would be preferable to
tearing, cutting or heating it away. Both are widely used in the following
techniques:
Quilting
Embroidery
Lace Work
Buttonholes
Thread Sketching
Edge Work
Charted Needlework Design Patterns
Intricate Embroidery Designs on Knitwear
Cut Work
Monogramming
Machine Spun lace (Needlelace)
3-D Applique
3-D Computerized Machine Embroidery
Shadow Work
Heirloom Serging and Sewing
Battenburg Lace
Smocking
Toweling
Hoopless Embroidery
Faux Woven Fabric
Why would I use Ultra Solvy Stabilizer instead of another kind of Sulky Stabilizer?
- Stitch with a delicate straight stitch or on delicate fabrics without
concern that the stitching will be pulled out or distorted when the
stabilizers is removed.
- Leave no "fuzzy" white edges when removed.
- Can be layered together for heavier treatments.
- Add no bulk to designs.
- Make a liquid stabilizer from scraps left over from other projects...No
Waste!
- Because it is clear, it is so easy to write, draw or trace onto it with
either a permanent-ink marker or a water soluble marker.
- One layer of Ultra Solvy is ideal for most projects, like as a topper
for holding down the nap on towels or when stitching out computerized
embroideries that have a combination of both satin stitching and straight
stitching.
- For hoopless embroidery, you can also moisten hooped Ultra Solvy with a
damp sponge and smooth the fabric over it. Let dry, then embroider. Remove
stabilizer.
How would I remove Ultra Solvy?
Removal is easy -- submerge in cool water for 5-10 minutes. Rinse
thoroughly. Lay project flat to dry.
How would I use and store Ultra Solvy Stabilizer?
It can be used in a hoop by itself, above the fabric as a topper, under the
fabric as a stabilizer, or fused together in layers with Sulky KK 2000 if
additional heaviness is desired. Trace or draw a design onto Ultra Solvy,
then spray Sulky KK 2000 Temporary Spray Adhesive onto the fabric, and hand
press Solvy to the fabric for a pattern to follow when quilting or thread
sketching. Store unused portions in a sealed zip-lock bag. Store unused
liquid Ultra Solvy in a sealed, marked jar in your refrigerator.
